As Legend Press approaches its 19th year since being founded in a North London internet café in 2005 and with hundreds of novels published, we have been reflecting on why the company was started in the first place – to create a footprint in history by creating something unique as a publisher and for authors and the books we publish. 

 

On one side we are very proud of each and every book we have published and still get the same buzz whenever we see a Legend Press book appear on a bookshelf or anywhere else. On the other side of this, we have tried our best to follow the business model built by larger publishers with deep pockets to invest in future books and printing and this has been a constant challenge over our nearly two decades of publishing high-quality new books for readers.

 

We have therefore decided it is now time to return to our creative roots, stop following and start creating business models that works for us and fellow small presses. While we still want those bestselling and high-profile books for our authors, we want to change Legend Press’s course to focus more on what it has been at its best: focused on reader and writer communities, events and building new platforms for authors.

 

The press started as an outsider and we want to revel again in that, with a focus on working directly with our authors and all readers wherever possible, as well as with other like-minded small presses taking on the tough odds and challenging the establishment.

 

And finally, we want you involved! We have decided we want at least 10% of Legend Press owned by authors and readers. This will enable us both to raise capital to invest in new books to make us more sustainable and to have those who are most important to us as a voice in the running of the press. All of this will then help us take our business and mission onto the next exciting level.

As part of this scheme there are two options to be involved, one as a general supporter and one as an investor which involves receiving an annual return.
